Since 2021, Power BI Next Step has grown into one of the leading Power BI community conferences in the World. Here’s a look back at our previous events.

2021 – Copenhagen

In 2021, Power BI Next Step finally went in-person – one of the first data conferences to open after the lockdown. The atmosphere at Comwell Copenhagen Portside in Nordhavn was electric, with 125 attendees joining for a single, focused conference day on 17 September 2021.

The program featured 18 breakout sessions across 3 rooms, delivered by 18 international speakers, with no keynote – just pure, deep-dive Power BI content all day.

2022 – Billund

In 2022, the conference moved to LEGOLAND® Hotel in Billund and expanded into a full two-day format, with a dedicated training day followed by the main conference.

The training day (19 September) offered three full-day workshops:

  • Improve Power BI performance by optimizing DAX (Alberto Ferrari)
  • Building Impactful Reports by Exploring the Art of Possible (Reid Havens)
  • Analytics at scale with Power BI and Azure Synapse Analytics (Marc Lelijveld & Dave Ruijter)

On conference day (20 September), attendees enjoyed a keynote from Will Thompson and Ewan Tinitali from the Power BI Product Group, followed by 3 tracks with a total of 18 breakout sessions.

The event was completely sold out with 200 tickets, bringing together a strong mix of customers, partners and Power BI professionals.

2023 – Copenhagen

In 2023, Power BI Next Step returned to Copenhagen, this time at HUONE, for another two-day deep dive into all things Power BI.

The training day (21 September) featured three highly focused workshops:

  • The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Power BI Adoption Roadmap (Matthew Roche)
  • Advanced DAX (Marco Russo)
  • Power BI Source Control & CI/CD (Mathias Thierbach & Rui Romano)

On conference day (22 September), Mohammad Ali opened the day with a keynote on the Power BI strategy and what’s coming next, followed by 3 tracks with 18 breakout sessions, blending real-world power bi stories, governance, performance, DAX and developer topics.

In total, 21 speakers from Microsoft and the wider community took the stage, making 2023 a truly international and highly technical edition.

2024 – Aarhus

In 2024, the conference moved to Aarhus, hosted at Radisson Blu Scandinavia, and continued the two-day format with a strong focus on advanced topics and hands-on learning.

The training day (12 September) offered three full-day workshops:

  • Advanced Semantic Model Development with Tabular Editor (Daniel Otykier)
  • Master Power Query & Data Transformation (Reza Rad)
  • Unlock the Power of Custom Visuals with Deneb (Daniel Marsh-Patrick)

The conference day (13 September) delivered 18 breakout sessions across 3 tracks, plus a keynote from the Microsoft product team, covering Fabric, Power BI and the future of analytics.

The event was fully booked, with capacity increased to 225 attendees from more than a dozen countries and around 90 companies, underlining how much the conference had grown.

2025 – Copenhagen

In 2025, Power BI Next Step took place at Clarion Hotel Copenhagen Airport, making it easy for international attendees to fly in and walk straight into the conference venue.

The training day (22 September) featured three sold-out, highly targeted workshops:

  • Power BI for Developers: PBIP and CI/CD Unleashed (Rui Romano, Mathias Thierbach & Brian Hartman)
  • A Comprehensive Guide to Direct Lake for the Pro Data Modeller (Philip Seamark)
  • Power BI Report Design Workshop (Miguel Myers & Jeroen ter Heerdt)

On conference day (23 September), Mohammad Ali returned as keynote speaker, bringing fresh announcements from the Power BI and Fabric product teams and even sneak peeks at unreleased features.

The day continued with 18 breakout sessions across 3 tracks, delivered by 23 speakers: a mix of MVPs, Microsoft engineers and PMs, and leading community experts. In total, the 2025 edition gathered just over 200 attendees from 13 countries and 119 organizations, making it the biggest Power BI Next Step to date.
